Inclusivity isn’t just a buzzword; it’s woven into everything we do. Our gym is a space where everyone, regardless of gender identity, feels respected, welcomed, and safe. We understand that fitness spaces can be intimidating, especially for trans athletes who may feel overlooked or uncomfortable in traditional gym environments. That’s why we’re committed to setting a new standard—one where every member feels valued, celebrated, and free to pursue their fitness journey with confidence.

Pronoun Introductions and Respecting Identities

One of the simplest yet most meaningful ways we show respect is by normalizing pronoun introductions. Whether it’s during a class or when meeting new members, we ask everyone to introduce themselves with their pronouns. This practice not only shows that we respect and affirm each person’s identity but also fosters a more inclusive and understanding environment. For us, it’s not just about using correct pronouns—it’s about building a culture of respect and inclusion.

Displaying the Pride Flag with Pride

We proudly hang the Pride flag at Rare Breed as a visible sign of our commitment to the LGBTQ+ community, including trans athletes. This symbol is a small but powerful reminder that everyone is welcome here. It’s more than a flag; it’s a statement of our dedication to providing a safe space and honoring the diversity within our gym community.

Gender-Neutral Bathrooms and Locker Rooms

Comfort and privacy are essential, which is why we offer gender-neutral bathrooms and locker rooms. We recognize that traditional gendered spaces can cause discomfort and anxiety for trans and non-binary athletes. By providing gender-neutral facilities, we aim to create a space where everyone can feel comfortable and secure. It’s one of many ways we ensure that Rare Breed is a place where people feel at ease being themselves.

Avoiding Gendered Language for Equipment and Encouragement

We believe fitness should be inclusive and accessible for all, and that means breaking down gendered assumptions about strength, capabilities, and even equipment. We don’t refer to weights or machines as “men’s” or “women’s.” Instead, we focus on each athlete’s individual needs and goals. When it comes to group motivation, we use inclusive language. You’ll hear our coaches saying, “Good job, y’all!” rather than “Let’s go, ladies!” This shift in language helps create a space where everyone feels seen and supported.

Cultivating a Welcoming Culture and Community

At Rare Breed, our goal is to go beyond creating a safe space; we want to foster a community where trans athletes can thrive. We’re here to support all of our members on their journey to fitness, health, and happiness. By making these small but significant changes, we’re actively working to dismantle barriers and make fitness accessible to everyone.

Rare Breed is a place where you’re free to be yourself, push your limits, and achieve your goals. We’re more than just a gym; we’re a community committed to inclusivity, respect, and positive growth. For us, every individual who walks through our doors is a part of our family, and we’re honored to support them in their fitness journey.
